It is hot!

Well here it is 109 F today. Is it too hot to knit? In my opinion it is never too hot or too cold to knit! You, however, should take precautions. Here are some signs of heat exhaustion:

  • Heavy Sweating
  • Cool Moist skin
  • Paleness
  • Headache
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Muscle cramps
  • Tiredness and Weakness
  • Fainting
  • Dark colored urine
  • Low Blood Pressure
  • Rapid weak pulse
  • Rapid shallow breathing
Treatment for heat exhaustion is involves several cooling measures:
  • Cool, air conditioned environment
  • Cool shower or sponge bath
  • Rest, lay down and elevate feet.
  • Cool Non-alcoholic beverages
  • Lightweight or loose clothing
If fever greater than 102 F (38.9 C), fainting, confusion or seizures occur, dial 911 or call for emergency medical assistance.

If you sew, you can make a cool neck scarf . It is filled with water crystals that you can purchase at any home and garden center.

Today,in an attempt to stay cool and enjoy some social knitting, DH and I went to knitting today at a local Starbucks. I got a shakened iced green tea and DH got a green tea frappacino. We also purchased a bottle of Ethos water to share. We also shared a slice of yummy lemon pound cake. I knitted with friends for a couple of hours. The Starbucks tend to keep their establishments very cool making it a nice place for public knitting in the heat.

Sometimes when it rains it pours!

Yesterday was a lovely day! I got a chance to talk to my Dad on the phone and wish him a Happy Father's Day. I got to go to knitting and later to eat hamburgers with DH's parents and grandparents!

Today, wasn't as nice. I walked 8+ blocks with one of my clients in the heat with my asthma problems and current back problems. I hobbled along actually and she had to stop several times. I don't know if she was resting or just letting me catch up. DH picked me up from work which is a good thing because after that walk I wasn't really able to drive. On the way home, after we turned our car started to make a grinding noise. We stopped twice. We checked underneath and checked the fluids. DH managed to get us home at 10 mph. I am thankful that we are home.

Knitting is good for your Health!

I know from personal experience that knitting helps manage stress and pain. Here is a wonderful video that boasts the powerful health benefits of knitting and crocheting, the most impressive of which is a 30-50 percent improvement in memory for the elderly.

I feel better when I knit a little bit. I am a very slow knitter and I often try to intermingle a few easy projects with the large ones. Have a wonderful day!

Knitting with Lace weight yarn

Well, before our trip I had started a shawl in the Cascade Alpaca Lace weight that I purchased at The Urban Sheep on opening day. Today, I was able to knit on that project. I think that I will take it with me tomorrow to The Urban Sheep's Grand Opening Ceremony and attend WWKIP Day event after the ribbon cutting ceremony. Hey, maybe I will even wear my Los Vegas hat that I purchased the morning before we left.

Happy Knitting!

Free rootbeer floats, the blahs, and birthdays

Today Glen and I got free Root-beer floats at Sonic! They were yummy and I got a large Oceanwater too! I am feeling better today.

I have had the blahs for a few weeks. I haven't even felt like knitting. My back is hurting and I just haven't been feeling well. I've had x-rays of my back. I am getting some blood work done tomorrow, and I have my yearly exam later this month. Well after all of that I have a follow up appointment with my regular MD in July. Hopefully, all the tests will provide answers.

My birthday was Monday, June 1. I had to work, but I was able to stop by Sock Therapy at The Urban Sheep for a few minutes before it was over. I have some birthday money and I am going to buy some yarn. I just can't make up my mind!

Here is the surprise that I got on Tuesday at Knitting from Wendi! There was yummy cake too!
